RELIGION – Cruelty and Reincarnation

La crueldad siempre ha formado parte de la historia del ser humano desde las épocas más remota hasta el tiempo actual.  El punto mas extremo que la crueldad puede alcanzar es como dijo el noble Seneca, que el hombre mate al hombre sin ira ni temor, por solo el placer de verlo morir.  Que acertado estuvo aquí el maestro.  En mi caso no soy capaz de ver sin sentir una gran indignación como se persigue y mata a un animal inocente e indefenso que para nada nos ha hecho daño.  Así sucede a veces con el Ciervo, que hallándose ya sin aliento ni fuerza, se entrega y rinde pasivamente a los que les están persiguiendo, pidiendo clemencia con sus lagrimas.  Como diría Virgilio en la Eneida, parece ensangrentado con sus lloros pedir gracia. Pitágoras en su bondad compraba las presas de los pescadores y pajareros para dejarlo suelto al momento.

Desde siempre la naturaleza sanguinaria de los humanos ha quedado reflejada en su tratamiento a los animales.  En la Roma imperial se acostumbraron primeramente a crueles espectáculos donde se mataban a animales salvajes, y luego se llego a los de gladiadores.  El caso era entretener y divertir a la plebe, como siempre pan y circo.  Creo que la propia naturaleza nos ha dado a los seres humanos algún instinto cruel.  Nadie se detiene hoy en dia ni un miserable segundo para ver como juegan y se acarician los animales, pero gastamos todo el tiempo del mundo en contemplar crueles corridas de toros, peleas de gallos o perros.  Es posible que algunas personas me tomaran por un chiflado, al mostrar mis simpatías por el reino animal.  Más diré que hasta en los libros sagrados se ordena tratarle con algún favor afecto y un cierto respeto.  Pues debemos considerar siempre que el Creador nos ha alojado en esta tierra para los fines más nobles.

Desde la antigüedad algunas religiones opinaban que las almas son eternas, y no dejan de mudar de un cuerpo a otro.  Mezclando a estas creencias algunas condiciones de origen divino, ya que se decían que según el comportamiento del alma, Dios le ordenaba habitar en otros cuerpos, más o menos penoso.  Con arreglo a su condición, vincula las almas en los cuerpos de los animales, y habita el cruel en un oso, el ladrón en un lobo, el falaz en un zorro. Sometidos por muchos años a mil transformaciones, purificandose al fin las almas en el rio Leteo, y Dios les devuelve en prístina forma.

Claudiano en Rufino (370 DC - 405 DC),  “Al alma valiente se le supone alojada en el cuerpo de un león, a la voluptuosas en el de un cerdo.  A las cobardes en un ciervo o liebre.  A las maliciosa en un zorro, y así sucesivamente, hasta que purificada por este castigo, vuelve el alma al cuerpo de otro hombre.  Estamos obligados a un cierto respeto y un gran deber de humanidad, no solo con el reino animal que tienen vida y sentimiento, sino incluso con arboles y plantas.”  Para terminar personalmente soy de la opinión que la reencarnación es la justicia mas justa y equitativa para todos los seres  vivos de este planeta tanto si son humanos, animales o plantas.

Human Cruelty

Cruelty has always formed part of the human being’s history since the most remote époque to present day.  The most extreme kind of cruelty can be reached, according to the noble Seneca, that a man kills another man without any anger or fear, only for the pleasure of witnessing his death.  How right was the master in saying this.  In my case I am not capable of witnessing how a person pursues and kills an innocent and defenseless animal that has not caused any harm, without feeling a deep sense of indignation.  This is what occurs with the deer, when they find themselves with neither strength nor stamina, and they surrender themselves passively to their predator, begging for clemency with their tears.  Just as Virgilio said in Eneida, the deer seems to be bleeding tears in asking for mercy.  Pythagoras with his kindness used to buy the prey from the fishermen and bird hunters so that he could release them immediately. 

Ever since time began, the bloody and cruel nature of the humans has been reflected in his treatment of the animals.  In Imperial Roman times, the people were accustomed in viewing spectacles where they kill savage animals, and then this practice was extended to the gladiators.  The purpose was to entertain and give joy to the common people, like always vulgarity of bread and circus.  I believe that nature itself has bestowed upon the human beings a kind of cruel instincts.  Nobody would stop by, not even for one miserable second to see how animals play and to caress them.  But we would spend all the time in the world in contemplating the cruel bullfights, cockfights or dogfights.  It is possible that some people will think that I am crazy in showing my compassion for the animal kingdom.  But I would add that even in the sacred texts it has been decreed that animals been treated with affection and certain respect.  We have to always consider that the Creator had given us abode on this Earth for the most noble of reasons.   

Since ancient times some religions are of the opinion that the soul is eternal and that we would keep moving from one body to another.  Mixing with these beliefs some of the conditions of divine origin, it could be deduced that in accordance with the behavior of the soul, God will send it to reside in other bodies, be it more or less painful.  In line with its condition, the soul is linked to the bodies of the animals; the cruel will reside in the body of a bear, the thief in that of a wolf, the treacherous in that of a fox.  Subjected to many years of thousands of transformations, purifying itself in the end in the River Leteo, and God will return it to its pristine form.

Claudiano in Rufino (379 AD – 405 AD), “For the valiant soul, it is deduced that it will reside in the body of a lion, the voluptuous in that of a pig.  The soul of a coward in that of a deer or hare.  That of the malicious in a fox, and in the same manner for other souls; until it is purified with this punishment, the soul will then return to the body of a human being.  We are obliged to exhibit a certain respect and humanity, not only towards the animal kingdom that has life and feelings, but also towards the trees and plants.”  As a conclusion, personally I am of the opinion that reincarnation is the form of justice most fair and equitable for all the living forms of this planet, be they humans, animals or plants.
