ESOTERISM – Lobsang Rampa: Mystic or Imposter?

En los años 60s se dio un gran fenómeno dentro del minoritario mundo del esoterismo y la espiritualidad.  Esto fue debido a la enorme resonancia que tuvieron los escritos de Lobsang Rampa, al ser unos de los pioneros de la introducción de la cultura tibetana en Occidente.  Un nombre mítico para lo estudioso de las disciplinas proveniente de Asia, su libro más famoso y que causó más impacto fue El Tercer Ojo.  Las opiniones que tenia sobre Occidente no eran muy buena que digamos.  Él decía que salvo una exigua minoría los occidentales, no tenían capacidad para las cosas espirituales.  Todo cuanto desean es guerra, sexo, sadismo y el derecho a inmiscuirse en las vidas de los otros.  También reflexionaba sobre la futilidad y banalidad de la vida en sí.  Él afirmaba, “Tu cuerpo físico no es el autentico tú, es simplemente una envoltura que permite al verdadero tú permanecer en este planeta.”

Se hacia estas preguntas: ¿Quien, una vez u otra, no ha pensado, qué sentido tiene esta vida terrenal?  ¿Es indispensable el tener que afrontar tantos sinsabores y trabajo?  La verdad sin duda, es que tienen que existir los sufrimientos, las estrecheces y las guerras.  Ponemos demasiado interés en las cosas de este mundo, tendemos a pensar que nada hay tan importante como la vida sobre la Tierra.  La verdad es que, sobré la Tierra, no somos nada más que unos actores sobre la escena, cambiando el vestuario a los compas de nuestros papeles y, al final de cada acto, retirándonos por un rato, pará comparecer en el siguiente acto, vestido con otras trazas.

También escribió sobre el viaje astral, decía que era tan natural como el respirar.  Es un derecho de nacimiento que cada ser humano posee.  No importa si es un animal, una planta, un pez, un humano o un pájaro.  Toda criatura viva puede viajar astralmente.  Para muchas personas este señor no dejaba de ser unos de tantos charlatanes que pretenden venderte el Paraíso.  En mi caso debido a mi fuerte materialismo nunca logré leer más de 50 páginas de sus psicodélicos libros.  Muchas personas han criticado de una forma más que inflexible, que Lobsang Rampa no era ni tibetano ni monje, sino un simple fontanero, que logró embaucar a los que creyeron en sus ideas y compraron sus libros.  Pero honradamente pienso que merece la pena leer sus libros.

During the 60s there occurred a great phenomenon within the minority world of esoterism and spirituality.  This was due to the enormous resonance that was generated from the writings of Lobsang Rampa, who was the pioneer for the introduction of Tibetan culture in the West.  A mythical name for the students of the disciplines originating from Asia, his most famous book which had the most impact was the Third Eye.  The opinions that he held in relation to the West were not very favorable to say the least.  He said that, except for a meager minority, the western people did not have capacity for the spiritual side of things.  All they have on their minds is war, sex, sadism and the right to meddle in the lives of others.  He also reflected upon the futility and triviality of life in itself.  He affirmed, “Your physical body is not the authentic you, it is simply a vessel that allows the true you to remain on this planet.”

He posed these questions:  Is there anyone, who has not thought about the meaning of this terrestrial life?   Is it necessary to confront so many obstacles and tasks?  The truth, without a doubt, is that suffering must exist, and so does financial turmoil and wars.  We put too much emphasis in the things of this world; we tend to think that there is nothing as important as life on the Earth.  The truth is that, on the face of this Earth, we are not nothing more than actors on the stage, changing our attire in accordance to our roles, at the end of each act; we retire from the stage, just to reappear in the following act, dressed in new attire.

He also wrote about the astral journeys, which he said was as natural as breathing.  It is a birth right that each human being has.  It does not matter if the subject is an animal, a plant, a fish, a human or a bird.  All living creatures can travel out of body.  For many people this gentleman was just another of many who tried to sell the idea of Paradise.  In my case due to my strong materialism, I have never managed to read more than 50 pages of his psychedelic books.  Many people have criticized him in an inflexible manner, that Lobsang Rampa was neither a Tibetan nor a monk, but a simple plumber, who managed to con the people who believed in his ideas and bought his books.  But honestly I do think that it is worth the trouble to try and read his books.
