RELIGION – The Miracle

Sencillamente comencé a hablarle.

When it is sunny I usually go fishing, which is something that calms me.  The place where I usually go to is nice and quiet.  Apart from the distraction of fishing itself, another important factor that keeps me there for a couple of hours is the presence of three birds who start to flutter over my head whenever they see me.  A couple of days ago I brought them grains of rice and maize and they thanked me with a vibrant and rhythmic chant.  In this way we have come to establish a happy friendship.  After a month I decided to approach the birds in a more fluid manner.  Simply put, I started to talk to them.  Everything was very easy, I filled the palm of my hand with grains of corn.  In a few seconds I saw the three birds eating out of my hand without any fear.  That gave me the confidence to speak with all naturalness, "Are you birds happy to see me?"  It was in that magical moment that the miracle occurred.

I could hear their response at that moment, "Yes we are, to see that you mean no harm to us.  We are also happy to see that you return the fish to the sea every time you catch them."  I could not believe this miraculous conversation.  Asked if they needed my grains of rice for their livelihood, they answered no, “The Creator has endowed us with food of the trees, and nature gives us what we need.  We still accept your grains of rice as a token of your kindness."  One of the birds asked me the reason for my presence in the quiet cove.  I, somewhat shy, told him that this was my way to meditate and be alone with God.  The bird asked me if their God was the same as mine, He who provides for him and other animals.  I told him that He is the same who provides for us humans too.  The bird told me that  their encounters with beings human has not always been so friendly, compared with me, as there are cruel children who sometimes mutilate them in perverse games.  I told them that not all humans are cruel; for example there was a great Saint called St. Francis of Assisi, who preached to birds just like them.  The sparrows, upon hearing his voice, began to stretch their necks in rejoice, tended their wings, and opened their beaks.  When I finish my chat with the sparrows, I went back to my house.  And on the way I said to myself that this miraculous adventure with the birds has reaffirmed my belief that the only way out in these hard times is to leave everything in hands of the Creator, who will save us from our ills and misfortunes, the same as He does with the three birds.

SPAIN – Hunger and Justified Violence

¡Qué gran estafa, no!

Lately the economic plight of our nation has been instigating the people to take to the streets in protest.  Their anger would be more than anger, that at the same time is being manipulated by those who call themselves defenders of the working class.  But what I am trying to analyze today is not whether they are right or wrong; that which I wish to focus upon is the increasingly large number of people who are resorting to the centers of Caritas and other religious orders to obtain some hot soup.  I would assume that these people have almost no economic resources.  Once more the often maligned Catholic Church is helping these people, showing us an example of how one should love your neighbor.  The most unusual thing about this is that people who come to these centers are not the usual beggars or social outcasts.  No, we are talking about unfortunate but honest people who have lost their jobs, who find it hard to even come up with 6 Euros for food.  They are men and women who once used to be the middle class of the nation.
But this is not all; the situation has gotten to the point whereby many people wait till the closure of supermarkets to search for food that have been thrown away in the rubbish containers due to the fact that it has expired or is due to expire.  As you can see, the spectacle is truly deplorable; that while still living in democracy, these people, who have always worked hard for a living, is now faced with such a bleak situation.  This is the stark reality in our nation today.  Politicians of the Government, unions, bankers, businessmen and other parasites, get wise now because hunger often drives the masses to drastic measures.  This state of misery is not only found in Spain; in Portugal, due to lack of financial resources sufficient to afford a heating system, more than 2,000 people have been killed, most of them elderly.  In Greece cases of suicides and mental problems have increased.  Meanwhile the responsible and guilty parties cynically call for more austerity and social cuts.  It is during these difficult times, faced with extreme misery, both moral and physical, that it would be necessary to resort to violence, or if you wish, self-defense.   Even the Catholic Church finds it logical to resort to violence in certain cases.  Well, the plutocracy will only listen to the people when their heads are on the verge of being chopped off by the guillotine.  The situation cannot prolong in this state for much longer.  36% of the population in the region of Murcia is already living in poverty, according to a spokesman for Carita Murcia.  What good is democracy when many of our fellow citizens are looking for food in rubbish containers?  Democracy, what a big scam!

LITERATURE – Der Steppenwolf

For those of us with silver hair now, during our adolescence in the past, we were delighted by the beautiful novel Siddhartha by the great Herman Hesse, a novel in which he sang the praises of humanism, in the pursuit of Eastern mysticism.  In short the work was a lyrical symphony.  In my case however, it always reminds me of his other excellent and unique book which is Der Steppenwolf, a novel that still captivates me today.  When I was 17 years old  I read it for the first time, but I didn't know how to decipher its contents.  Now that I have decided to reread the book, I can  identify more with the tormented and central character of the novel, the melancholic and misanthropic Harry Haller.

Der Steppenwolf is a book not to be read just once, but to be re-read and be reflected upon.  The character is a being that has chosen solitude as an antidote against the masses and the mediocrity of life.  He is not portrayed as unsympathetic but rather antisocial.  The character was happy during a point of time in his life, living a conventional life and in a bourgeois marriage.  One day all that disappeared and he began to enclose himself and it is when he discovered the abomination of the society in which he was living.  In his solitude he realized how easy it was to manipulate human beings.  He realized that the citizens of a nation were not prone to employing their devices in pursuit of a critical thinking against the powers that be.  The book was clearly a critique of the rise of Nazism.

The book by Herman Hesse is of an astonishing relevance to the  current deplorable situation in Europe, where in its crude and  selfish societies, soccer and trashy television programming occupy the routine and vile lives of many.  The thoughts of Harry Haller, the protagonist of the novel, is synthesized in annotations like the following.  <Solitude was independence, it was cold, that is true, but it was also quiet, wonderfully quiet and vast, just like the quiet cold space through which the stars move. > He also noted, <Man is not in any way, a firm and durable product, he is more like an work in progress and a transition, he is none other than another object, the narrow and dangerous bridge between nature and spirit. >

PERSONAL GROWTH - The Demon Within (Redux)

RELIGION – Calvin: The Shadow of Satan

There have been many great heretics in the history of Christianity, but no doubt one of the most sinister and renowned in my opinion is the diabolical John Calvin.  This miserable being spent the best part of his life spreading the Satanic influence of his doctrine throughout Europe.  Calvin was nothing more than a cruel and mediocre philosopher.  In this post I will try to expose this villain.  People who are noble and Christian should know more about this malevolent and sinister mind, who was an envoy of Lucifer.  In itself the original source of the Calvinist theories was Gnosticism, a heresy that already existed in the 2nd century B.C.  The Calvinist sects allow each person to pervert the Scripture in order to satisfy his delirious personal theories.  This is in itself was an act of sabotage against the bible.  Can you trust in those who have lied about something as noble and fundamental?   Certainly not.  The sects with their legions of fakes interpret the Gospel according to their spurious desires; they lie and do not deserve our trust.

John Calvin established a religious dictatorship in Geneva.  His diabolical ideas were being implemented forcefully.  One of his most notable victims was Michael Servetus, who was a free thinker, a lover of freedom of thought.  Calvin on the contrary was a small-minded person, with narrow ideas and purposes.  Calvin always felt a deep envy towards Servet.  There were many differences between the two characters; Servet was beautiful, strong, healthy, courageous; Calvin was stunted, sickly, cowardly.  Calvin, filled with anger, ordered for Servet to be arrested, accusing him of heresy, for having written a study on the circulation of blood.  And the most serious accusation was that Servet doubted the Dogma of the Trinity.  And clearly these views were intolerable to the dogmatic Calvin.

Calvin rejected the allure of money, and he detested luxury; poverty was viewed as the only way to salvation, but at the same time, characteristic of all the tyrants in the past, he was subjugated by a passion greater than greed: love of power, unbridled ambition of authority, the ruthlessness in destroying all obstacles, even the most insignificant who oppose his omnipotent will.  For the Satanic Calvin, the condemnation of the infant sons of the heretics and wicked to be burnt in the flames of hell was considered just, as much as the burning of the heretics themselves.  Calvinism proposed sending these innocent children to the same hell, even though they have not been blacklisted.  And this, according to him is the will of God, that God is right in his predetermination.  Calvinism presents God as a callous and unjust ruler, who would even punish the innocent creatures that have not committed any evil deeds.  How gratifying it is to follow in the path of Jesus Christ, rather than that of Calvin the Pharisee!  Of course, now in the 21st century it is even worse to follow the new Satanic order, which is none other than the Scientology sect.

MÉXICO – Religion and Human Sacrifices

Human sacrifices has been one of the most common practices in the history of mankind.  They were already practiced in many cultures in ancient times.  For example in Celtic religions in the Bronze Age, it was practiced in ancient Rome up to 97 BC.  In Cartago it was very normal sacrificing infants to appease the wrath of their gods.  In the Aztec Culture one year was composed of a circle of 18 months drenched in blood, with 18 ways to die either by arrows, immersion in water, skinning, throat cutting, etc.  It was all a religious aberration but with a social content.  The Aztec cult required their innumerable gods to be fed with human blood so as to ensure the progress of the universe.  In Aztec culture human sacrifice was a divine task and at the same time of political and military significance.  The tribes under the dominion of the Aztec Empire had the obligation to periodically wage battles with the Azteca and their allies, so as to provide the empire with people taken captive, who were then destined to be slaughtered.  You could say that conquered tribes constituted a sacred food reserve.

The Aztecs recognized the existence of a Supreme Creator and Lord of the universe.  They turned to Him in their prayers, as the God by Whom we live, Who is present in everything, Who knows all thoughts and Who delivers all the gifts, without Whom man will be nothing.  Thirteen was the number of the main deities, with more than 200 lower deities, and for each of them a specific day was designated as a proper holiday.  At the head of these gods was the terrible HUITZILOPOCHTLI, the Mexican Mars, though it would be unfair to compare him to the heroic God of war of the Romans, as the Aztec God was far more bloody and cruel.  The Aztecs practiced human sacrifices up to the beginning of the 14th century, 200 years before the conquest of Mexico by the Spaniards.  Their victims often died in the following manner: the victim was accompanied by six priests, and he was then led up to the stone of sacrifice which was of a gleaming marble, with a convex upper surface where he was laid down upon.  Five priests held his head, arms and legs, while the sixth priest all dressed in a scarlet cloak, an emblem of his murderous craft, opened up the chest of the victim with a sharp knife of ITZTLI, which was a volcanic substance as hard as flint.  And putting his hand into the wound, he extracted the throbbing heart.  This priest of death would first lift up the heart towards the Sun, an object of worship for the Anahuac, and then he would throw the heart at the feet of the deity to whom the temple was consecrated.  And at the same time the multitude would bow down in humble adoration.  But most abominable of all was the way the corpse was being disposed of.  The body of the victim would be seasoned with spices and served at a banquet for the notable figures of the Kingdom.  The number of wretched souls who died each year in these gruesome human sacrifices was estimated at 25,000.  In the end it was Christianity that  ended all these savagery and idolatry.

MÉXICO – Blood and the Olympics: October 1968

These past days,  student demonstrations have been taking place in some Spanish cities.  The governing Partido Popular has issued a statement saying that the demonstrations are illegal and that the students are being deceived.  Well, we have already heard the same speech given by General Franco way back in distant 1968.  It seems that the wording never changes.  Student protests that occurred in 1968 have nothing to do with the current insubstantial protests which lack content.  To illustrate what really constitutes student protests, we have to look back in time at Mexico, where the students truly had the system against the ropes.  The Mexican student movement was combative and cohesive not only to students, but also for the expansive levels of the population especially to the workers.  An example of strength and enthusiasm of this movement was the great manifestation of August 27, 1968, where 200,000 people demonstrated in a pacifist manner in the centre of the city.

In September 18, 1968 the army occupied the University, arresting hundreds of students.  This would be the prelude of what would happen later.  On October 2, 1968, student protests were brutally suppressed by violent means, in accordance to the orders given by the then President of the Republic of Mexico, the butcher of his own people, Gustavo Díaz Ordaz.  The Olympia battalion took up the reins of the ferocious massacre.  They were a paramilitary group with right-wing tendency.  The army killed nearly 400 people in crushing the protests.  The killing at La Plaza de Las Tres Culturas was without doubt an abominable crime of the state.  On October 2, 1968 tanks occupied La Plaza de Las Tres Culturas.  When night fell the military started shooting.  And the plaza was transformed into a trap with no way out.  On that tragic night 5,000 students and workers were present at the plaza with their families.  Years later the officials admitted that 8,000 soldiers of different battalions were involved in these bloody events; 300 Vehicles including tanks and jeeps with machine guns were also used.  They fired a total of 15,000 rounds.  Within ten days of the carnage, Díaz Ordaz had the nerve to inaugurate the Olympic Games, since Mexico was the host.  The irony was that these games were baptized as the Olympic Games for Peace.  I would say that it would be more fitting for the peace in the cemeteries.  The waves of student protests struck not only in Mexico.  On 20 August Soviet tanks entered into Prague and earlier in May that year French students had the Government of Charles de Gaulle against the ropes.  Here in our nation, the police also tried to disperse the students with truncheons  during that time.  As you can see, Franco wasn't as violent with the students as compared with the butcher Diaz Ordaz.
